Defective door latch lawsuit settled

March 28, 2005

A federal lawsuit claiming a defective door latch on a Ford Motor Co. pickup truck failed has been settled before the case went to the jury.

According to the lawsuit, as a result of the defective door latch, a man was ejected during an accident, which left him a quadriplegic. Quadriplegia affects all four limbs, resulting in permanent disability or loss of movement in all four extremities.

When the 1997 car accident occurred, the then 18-year old man was ejected from his Ford F-150. The trial began on March 7 and several weeks of testimony were heard, according to court documents. The lawsuit claimed breach of an implied warranty and defective design.

The amount of the settlement was not released.
