A family living in Florida was recently awarded $50 million in a car accident lawsuit that has been ongoing for the past three years.

Their son was left with severe brain injuries and the father was injured when a drunk driver crashed into their car.

Crash Leaves Boy With Brain Damage

When the accident occurred, the skull of Mario Ladler II, who was four-years-old at the time of the accident, was instantly shattered.

Pieces of bone were reportedly lodged into his brain and doctors were allegedly forced to remove his frontal lobe.

Since the accident, Mario has lived institutionalized at the Florida Institute for Neurological Rehabilitation.

The suit claimed that he requires 24-hour care and attention.

Father Injured

The boy's father, Mario Ladler, suffered from head trauma and a ruptured spleen and diaphragm.

According to the suit, he has been unable to return to work.

Driver Pleads Guilty

The driver of the truck that crashed into the family, Michael Yow, pleaded guilty to DUI involving serious injuries and has been sentenced to five years in jail.

"We're very, very happy for little Mario and we hope now that he will get everything that he needs," says the Ladler family's verdict.
