September 8, 2005

Ford Motor Co. has recalled 3.8 million pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) because of a problem with a cruise control switch in one of the largest recalls in U.S. auto history.

According to the automaker, a switch is suspected in a number of engine fires, regardless of whether the engines were turned off. Involving 1994- 2002 model year vehicles, affected models include the F-150 pickup truck, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and Ford Bronco.

Toyota is also recalling nearly one million trucks and SUVs, including the 1990-1995 4Runner SUV, 1989-1995 truck 4WD and 1993-1998 T-100 pickup.
