GM issues a recall affecting 804,000 vehicles

August 30, 2005

General Motors Corp. is recalling 804,000 full-size pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) because the anti-lock brakes may function improperly.

According to federal safety regulators, unwanted application of the antilock brake system in some vehicles can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed braking and can lead to a crash.

The auto recall affects the Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado pickups and the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs. Also affected by the recall is the GMC Sierra pickup and Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said all of the recalled trucks are from the 1999-20002 model years.

Last year, GM had more vehicle recalls than any other manufacturer in the United States.
