When a police officer suffered a broken neck on February 8, 2001 after his SUV rolled several times, his life was changed forever. Now a quadriplegic, the man needs care 24-hours a day and spends at least three hours a day doing intensive therapy.
The car accident has not only changed the former officer's life, but his family's life as well. Unable to care for himself, his wife had to quit her job because they cannot pay for the nursing care that would be necessary for at least nine hours a day. Unfortunately, there is no cure for spinal cord injuries, and the trauma of the injury can be extremely difficult.
Nursing care can be very expensive, and unlike some other injuries, quadriplegia and paraplegia require ongoing treatment in addition to having to rely on the assistance of other people to perform daily tasks.
On April 12, the Cure Paralysis Now Rally will be held in Washington, D.C. where senators and congressman will be urged to pass the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act when it is reintroduced in April. There are over 500,000 people living with spinal cord injuries, and car accidents are the leading cause of injury.Read More Crashworthiness News.....
