A man, who is now a quadriplegic after being the victim of a car crash, was recently awarded $21 million.
The award is one of the largest settlement awards in Vermont's state history.
Accident Details
Ralph Currier was reportedly riding in the passenger seat of a car driven by Taylor Quinn when the vehicle, which was going 100 miles per hour, veered off the road and crashed into a house.
"Her car ended up in the living room of a home, having traveled well in excess of 100 miles per hour," explained Curriers attorney, Robert Sand. "She turned her car into a rocket and launched it into a house."
Lawsuit Filed Against Driver's Mother
The lawsuit was filed against Suzanne Schipper, the mother of Quinn claiming that Schipper negligently entrusted her daughter with the car.
Judge Theresa Dimauro told the jury last week that "Virtually all of his (Curriers) basic needs must now be met by others."
Accident Consequences
Quinn was sentenced to 10 months in prison for gross negligent operation of a vehicle.
The $22 million award was given to cover medical care, lost wages and for the pain and suffering of the 21-year-old victim.
