A General Motors Corp. has announced it is recalling 291,652 Saturn L-Series sedans and wagons in the United States because of defective tail lights.
The L-Series from the 2000 to 2002 model years and wagons from the 2000 to 2004 model years are affected by the auto recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the plastic housing in the brake light assembly could distort if the tail lights are on for an extended time in affected models.
Due to the auto defect, the NHTSA warns on its Web site that the tail lights can fail. The auto recall will begin in September, according to the agency.
GM had the most auto recalls issued in the U.S. during 2004. In April and May, GM recalled more than two million vehicles because of potential safety defects, resulting in a $1.1 billion loss in the first quarter.
