A $21 million settlement was recently reached in the suit filed against the city of San Francisco for the death of a small girl.
The suit was filed by the parents of the four-year-old girl who suffered mass head injuries when she was crushed by a city pickup truck.
Walk Home from School Ends in Horror
Elizabeth Lopez was walking with her family and friends home from school and the group had reportedly just crossed an intersection when a city worker drove his truck through the intersection and collided with another car.
The impact supposedly caused the driver’s truck to lose control and jump onto the sidewalk.
Elizabeth was pinned against the wall of a building by the truck and her head was instantly crushed as her mother, Sylvia, watched in horror.
A Lawsuit is Filed and A School Unites
Elizabeth was immediately killed upon impact and shortly after her family filed a suit against the city of San Francisco for her wrongful death.
The accident was reportedly particularly hard on the children who were also walking home from Buena Vista Alternative and witnessed the accident.
“Our school really came together, helping each other, supporting each other,” stated Carol Thollander, who was Elizabeth’s teacher at the time. “But that doesn’t really make up for the loss of the family, the fact that they’ll never see Elizabeth again.”
