NHTSA reported that GM has recalled about 1,530 affected 1999 Chevrolet T series trucks. The recalled Chevrolets were manufactured between September 1998 and August 2000 because of a condition of premature wear in the clutch master-cylinder pushrod end that attaches to the clutch pedal pin. If the Chevrolet clutch pedal does not return completely to the full-up position this may indicate future problems because the fast-idle engine speed control may not function correctly. Significant clutch master-cylinder pushrod end wear can lead to the attaching end to bend open or even break completely off and the pedal pin will detach from the clutch rod link and engage the clutch. If this occurs, the Chevrolet when brakes are not applied the truck could move forward if the transmission is in a forward gear or move backwards if the transmission is in reverse gear. The Chevrolet owners will be notified beginning April.

A fire related death in a Chevrolet Malibu would occur once in every 23.9 billion miles driven. $1.2 billion damage was awarded to six people that were severely burned in a Chevrolet Malibu that GM is asking to be overturned. When a drunk driver slammed into the back end of the Chevrolet Malibu the car burst into flames and caused a fuel fed fire. The lawyer that represented four children badly burned in the auto crash said that the trial judge had already rejected every GM argument. The lawyer felt that, GM made a deliberate conscious mathematical calculation to allow 300-500 people a year to burn to death because it would be cheaper to fight lawsuits than spend $8.59 per vehicle to fix the problem.
